When Joseph Joachim Raff was born on 27 May 1822, in Lachen, Schwyz, Switzerland, his father, Franz Joseph Raff, was 33 and his mother, Katharina Schmid, was 22. He married Doris Genast on 15 February 1859, in Wiesenstetten, Horb, Württemberg, Germany. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. He died on 25 June 1882, in Frankfurt am Main (Dom), Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany, at the age of 60.
