When Peter Martig was born on 23 October 1789, in St. Stephan, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Abraham Martig, was 37 and his mother, Susanna Kronegg, was 34. He married Sara Kunz on 2 April 1814. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 9 February 1862, at the age of 72.
