When Joseph William Meston was born on 27 April 1881, in Middleton, Norfolk, Ontario, Canada, his father, William Nicholas Meston, was 29 and his mother, Emma Adelia Graves, was 25. He married Barbara Knourek on 16 February 1908, in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Stockholm, Fertile Belt No. 183, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1921 and Melville, Cana No. 214, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1926. He died on 7 February 1969, in Tillsonburg, Oxford, Ontario, Canada, at the age of 87, and was buried in Tillsonburg Cemetery, Tillsonburg, Oxford, Ontario, Canada.

1883 · Mining Boom
In 1883, there was a mining boom in Northern Ontario when mineral deposits were found near Sudbury. Thomas Flanagan was the blacksmith for the Canadian Pacific Railway that noticed the deposits in the river.
1886 · First Workmen's Comp Act
