When Joze Merhar was born on 15 March 1871, in Stanežiče, Ljubljana-Šiška, Slovenia, his father, Andrej Merhar, was 22 and his mother, Agnes Bonca, was 19. He married Marjana Satler on 6 February 1899. They were the parents of at least 1 daughter. He died on 6 April 1944, in Ljubljana, Slovenia, at the age of 73.
