Name Meaning

Chinese 隋: from the name of the state of Sui (随) that existed during the Zhou dynasty ( 1122–221 bc ). Descendants of a ruler of this state adopted its name as their surname. However, the current form of the name is in most cases the character 隋, which was used to represent the name of the Sui dynasty ( 581–618 ad ). An emperor of that dynasty, Wen Di, commanded the change in form.
