When Johannes Meier was born on 22 November 1855, in Bachenbülach, Zürich, Switzerland, his father, Hans Ulrich Meier, was 43 and his mother, Susanna Maag, was 36. He married Louise Volkart on 2 June 1885. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 4 daughters. He died on 9 October 1927, at the age of 71.
