When Mariane Laursdatter was born on 24 February 1814, in Tulstrup, Skanderborg, Denmark, her father, Laurs Sørensen, was 35 and her mother, Ane Madsdatter, was 26. She married Jens Nielsen Strunge on 27 September 1833, in Tulstrup, Tulstrup, Ning, Århus, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 3 daughters. She died on 2 May 1882, in Linå, Gjern, Skanderborg, Denmark, at the age of 68, and was buried in Linå, Gjern, Skanderborg, Denmark.
The form of Miriam used by the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus , writing in Latin in the 1st century bc , as the name of the wife of King Herod . On the basis of this evidence, it has been thought by some to be closer to the original form of the name actually borne by the Virgin Mary, and has therefore been bestowed in her honour.
