When Anastryce Bridgeman was born in 1527, her father, Edward Bridgeman, was 13 and her mother, Mrs Edward Bridgeman, was 7. She married John Hooker alias Vowell about 1560, in Exeter, Devon, England. They were the parents of at least 8 sons and 5 daughters. She died on 25 February 1599, at the age of 72.

English: topographic or occupational name from Middle English brigge, brugge ‘bridge’ (Old English brycg) + man, denoting either a dweller by or a keeper of a bridge. See Bridge .

In some cases possibly also an Americanized form (translation into English) of German Bruckmann (see Bruckman ).

History: James Bridgeman or Bridgman (1620–76) came to Hartford, CT, from Winchester, Hampshire, England, in 1640.
