Joseph Randolph Roberts Sr was born on 15 September 1841, in Alabama, United States as the son of Roberts and Lucinda Roberts. He married Sarah Jane Shelton on 20 December 1860, in Ashley, Arkansas, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons. He lived in Carter Township, Ashley, Arkansas, United States in 1860 and Cherokee, Texas, United States for about 30 years. He died on 20 March 1901, at the age of 59, and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Wells, Cherokee, Texas, United States.
