1967 · Dagen H

Age 13

Dagen H, or Hogertrafikomlaggningen, was the day Sweden switched from driving on the left side of the road to the right side of the road. This was passed by Swedish Parliament in an effort to reduce accidents on the road. A massive effort and budget went into changing all of the road signs, bus stops, and traffic lines on the road. On September 3, 1967, at 4:50 am, vehicles were told to slowly move to the right side of the road and come to a complete stop. At 5:00 am, the radio announced, Sweden now has right-hand driving and traffic resumed. The switch brought much chaos on the roads.
