He married Annis Neyman on 23 December 1841, in Hancock, Illinois, United States. He lived in Grantsville, Tooele, Utah, United States in 1860. He registered for military service in 1853. He died on 12 November 1863, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 49.

Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.
