He lived in North Crosby Township, Leeds, Upper Canada, British Colonial America in 1836 and Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, United States in 1839. He registered for military service in 1851. He died on 9 September 1894, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 94, and was buried in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

The Crimes Act was made to provide a clearer punishment of certain crimes against the United States. Part of it includes: Changing the maximum sentence of imprisonment to be increased from seven to ten years and changing the maximum fine from $5,000 to $10,000.
