When Erich Pedersen Øhlenschlæger was born on 14 August 1801, in Frederiksnåde, Vorbasse, Slavs, Ribe, Denmark, his father, Johan Peder Jacobsen Oehlenschlaeger, was 41 and his mother, Johanne Margarethe Cathrine Franzsdatter, was 35. He married Anne Maria Pedersen Brandt on 27 October 1832, in Skanderup, Anst, Ribe, Denmark. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 2 daughters. He lived in Eltang, Brusk, Vejle, Denmark for about 5 years and Vejle, Nørvang, Vejle, Denmark in 1855. He died on 4 January 1865, in Fountain Green, Sanpete, Utah, United States, at the age of 63.
