When Mary Leona Allred was born on 5 May 1850, in Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States, her father, Isaac Allred, was 36 and her mother, Julia Ann Taylor, was 34. She married Joseph Parley Allred on 8 September 1863, in Spring City, Sanpete, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 2 daughters. She lived in Mount Pleasant, Sanpete, Utah, United States in 1860 and Mammoth, Juab, Utah, United States for about 10 years. She died on 5 January 1938, in Salmon, Lemhi, Idaho, United States, at the age of 87, and was buried in Salmon City Cemetery, Salmon, Lemhi, Idaho, United States.

1857 · The State Capital moves to Des Moines

The Capitol was located in Iowa City until the 1st General Assembly of Iowa recognized that the Capitol should be moved farther west than Iowa City. Land was found two miles from the Des Moines River to start construction of the new building. Today the Capitol building still stands on its original plot.

Abraham Lincoln issues Emancipation Proclamation, declaring slaves in Confederate states to be free.

1875 · A Treaty with Hawaii

In the Mid 1870s, The United States sought out the Kingdom of Hawaii to make a free trade agreement. The Treaty gave the Hawaiians access to the United States agricultural markets and it gave the United States a part of land which later became Pearl Harbor.
