When James Hurren was born on 24 February 1827, in Linstead Parva, Suffolk, England, United Kingdom, his father, William Hurren, was 32 and his mother, Mary Fisher Martin, was 41. He married Eliza Reeder on 28 September 1850, in Linstead Parva, Suffolk, England. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 7 daughters. He immigrated to New York City, New York, United States in 1856 and lived in Douglas, Nebraska, United States in 1856 and Brigham City, Box Elder, Utah, United States in 1860. He died on 6 December 1909, in Hyde Park, Cache, Utah, United States, at the age of 82, and was buried in Hyde Park Cemetery, Hyde Park, Cache, Utah, United States.

1833 · The Factory Act Restricts Child Labor

The Factory Act restricted the hours women and children could work in textile mills. No child under the age of 9 were allowed to work, and children ages 9-13 could not work longer than 9 hours per day. Children up to the age of 13 were required to receive at least two hours of schooling, six days per week.

1851 · Brigham City is Settled

In 1851, Brigham City is settled and named after Brigham Young.
