When Charles Henry Sanft was born on 30 August 1903, in Ha'alaufuli, Vava'u, Tonga, his father, Friedrich Wilhelm Sanft, was 53 and his mother, Fifita Haliote Afu, was 42. He died on 3 January 1983, in Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, Tonga, at the age of 79.
