When Lorenzo Dow Rudd was born on 16 January 1827, in Springfield Township, Erie, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, Erastus Harper Rudd, was 39 and his mother, Experience Wheeler, was 34. He married Julia Felshaw on 8 October 1849, in Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States. He lived in Fillmore, Millard, Utah, United States in 1860 and Riverdale, Weber, Utah, United States in 1870. He registered for military service in 1906. He died on 23 March 1911, in Ogden, Weber, Utah, United States, at the age of 84, and was buried in Ogden City Cemetery, Ogden, Weber, Utah, United States.

1830 · The Second Great Awakening

Being a second spiritual and religious awakening, like the First Great Awakening, many Churches began to spring up from other denominations. Many people began to rapidly join the Baptist and Methodist congregations. Many converts to these religions believed that the Awakening was the precursor of a new millennial age.

1833 · The Factory Act Restricts Child Labor

The Factory Act restricted the hours women and children could work in textile mills. No child under the age of 9 were allowed to work, and children ages 9-13 could not work longer than 9 hours per day. Children up to the age of 13 were required to receive at least two hours of schooling, six days per week.
