In 1779, when the town became incorporated, it was decided to change the name from Judea to Washington

1781 · The First Constitution

Serving the newly created United States of America as the first constitution, the Articles of Confederation were an agreement among the 13 original states preserving the independence and sovereignty of the states. Scottish (of Breton origin): perhaps, as some members of the Elliott clan believe, a Scottish variant of the Breton surname Elleouet, a habitational name from one of the hamlets named Allegot in Finistère.
