    The Tasman Mill is the largest single employer in the Eastern Bay of Plenty region. It has continued to use the geothermal steam as a power source and is home to a 100-megawatt Geothermal power station that is located within the mill.

    New Zealand's main Satellite communications ground station was built 5km (about 3.1 miles) from the small town of Warkworth. It remained active until 2008, when it was dismantled because of access to smaller, more accurate means of communication.
