    Name Meaning

name meaning ‘Sabine woman’, used occasionally in England since the 14th century. The Sabines were an ancient Italic race whose territory was early taken over by the Romans. According to tradition, the Romans made a raid on the Sabines and carried off a number of their women, but when the Sabines came for revenge the women succeeded in making peace between the two groups. The name Sabina was borne by three minor early Christian saints, in particular a Roman maiden martyred in about 127 .
