Name Meaning

English: probably a variant of Catlin or Gadling, the latter a nickname perhaps from Middle English gad(e)ling, ged(e)ling ‘companion, rogue’ (Old English gædeling ‘kinsman, comrade’).

Possibly an altered form of German Göttling, from an ancient Germanic personal name formed with god ‘god’ or gōd ‘good’ + -ling suffix of affiliation, or, like Gättling (of which this may also be an altered form), a nickname from Middle High German getlinc ‘companion, kinsman’. Compare 1 above.
