When Lars Knutson Quissel was born on 28 July 1818, his father, Knud Larsen Quissel, was 18 and his mother, Ambjør Evensdotter, was 17. He married Gjertrud Knudsdotter on 1 April 1850, in Vestre Slidre, Oppland, Norway. They were the parents of at least 5 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Pleasant Township, Winneshiek, Iowa, United States in 1870. He died on 29 October 1904, in White, Brookings, South Dakota, United States, at the age of 86, and was buried in White, Brookings, South Dakota, United States.
