1892 · The birth of Catalonian politics

A proposal of Catalan constitution, called Bases de Manresa, was written in Catalonia, initiating the political movement of Catalanism, which is a movement that is relevant in present day.
1895 · Basque Nationalist Party established

Basque Nationalist Party established by Sabino de Arana y Goiri, initiating separatist tensions that will last over a century.
1898 · Spanish-American War

Spain loses colonies including: Cuba, Guam, Puerto Rico as a result of the Treaty of Paris, which was signed on Dec. 10th 1898. Spain gives up Cuba entirely, gives Guam and Puerto Rico to the United States and transfers sovreignty of the Philippines to the United States for $20 million.
