In North America, the English form of the surname has absorbed many cognates from other languages, e.g. German Lorenz , and also their patronymics and other derivatives, e.g. Slovenian Lavrenčič and Lovrenčič (patronymics from Lavrencij and Lovrenc, equivalents of Lawrence), Polish Wawrzyniak .
