The Missouri Compromise helped provide the entrance of Maine as a free state and Missouri as a slave state into the United States. As part of the compromise, slavery was prohibited north of the 36°30′ parallel, excluding Missouri.

1825 · The Crimes Act

The Crimes Act was made to provide a clearer punishment of certain crimes against the United States. Part of it includes: Changing the maximum sentence of imprisonment to be increased from seven to ten years and changing the maximum fine from $5,000 to $10,000.

Name Meaning

English: habitational name from Rimington (Yorkshire), from Old English rima ‘rim, edge, boundary’ + the place- and river name forming suffix -ing (together meaning ‘boundary stream’, referring to Ings Brook) + tūn ‘farmstead, estate’. Rimington is on the Lancashire border.

History: The American painter Frederic Remington (1861–1909) was descended from John Remington, living in MA in 1639; his father, Eliphalet Remington, was born in Suffield, CT, in 1793, and was a noted firearms manufacturer.
