Brief Life History of Kenichi

When Kenichi Nishimoto was born on 1 September 1913, in Stockton, San Joaquin, California, United States, his father, Tatsujiro Nishimoto, was 32 and his mother, Natsu Furuya, was 32. He married Florence Sato on 15 February 1941, in San Joaquin, California, United States. He registered for military service in 1943. He died on 2 April 1990, at the age of 76, and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, United States.

1915 · Homemade Bomb Explosion

On July 2, 1915 an angry, former Harvard professor, Erich Muenter, places a homemade bomb in the Senate Reception Room. He was upset about the private sales of US munitions to the allies during the war.

1916 · The First woman elected into the US Congress

Jeannette Pickering Rankin became the first woman to hold a federal office position in the House of Representatives, and remains the only woman elected to Congress by Montana.

1934 · Alcatraz Island Becomes Federal Penitentiary

Alcatraz Island officially became Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary on August 11, 1934. The island is situated in the middle of frigid water and strong currents of the San Francisco Bay, which deemed it virtually inescapable. Alcatraz became known as the toughest prison in America and was seen as a “last resort prison.” Therefore, Alcatraz housed some of America’s most notorious prisoners such as Al Capone and Robert Franklin Stroud. Due to the exorbitant cost of running the prison, and the deterioration of the buildings due to salt spray, Alcatraz Island closed as a penitentiary on March 21, 1963.
