    Scottish:

    from Older Scots baillie, baili. In Scotland, a baillie was a status name for any of various officials, including the chief magistrate in a barony and (later) the chief magistrate or administrative officer of a barony or district. Etymologically, this is the same word as English Bailey , but the functions as well as the spelling of the two officials were different in England and Scotland.
