When John Majnarich Sr was born on 21 June 1892, in Delnice, Primorje-Gorski Kotar, Croatia, his father, Grga Majnaric, was 33 and his mother, Marija Kezele, was 29. He married Marÿa Kezele on 5 March 1921, in Roslyn, Kittitas, Washington, United States. They were the parents of at least 3 sons. He immigrated to Ellis Island, New York City, New York, United States in 1912 and lived in Naches, Yakima, Washington, United States in 1930. He died on 18 January 1944, in Yakima, Yakima, Washington, United States, at the age of 51, and was buried in Colorado, United States.

1896 · Plessy vs. Ferguson

A landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities if the segregated facilities were equal in quality. It's widely regarded as one of the worst decisions in U.S. Supreme Court history.

1897 · Beginnings of Kmart

Detroit was the home of the second dime and nickel stores that S. S. Kresge owned. After two years with John McCrory, his partner, he traded his share in the Memphis store, plus $3,000, for full ownership of the Detroit store and formed the Kresge & Wilson Company with his brother-in-law, Charles J. Wilson. In 1962, the S. S. Kresge Company would rebrand and change their name to Kmart.

1906 · Saving Food Labels

The first of many consumer protection laws which ban foreign and interstate traffic in mislabeled food and drugs. It requires that ingredients be placed on the label.
