He died on 13 June 1958, in Saint Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri, United States, at the age of 86, and was buried in Saint Joseph, Buchanan, Missouri, United States.

The town of Nicodemus was founded by African-American migrants from Kansas in 1877.

The Confederate General Thomas ‘Stonewall’ Jackson came from VA, where his great-grandfather John, likewise of Scotch–Irish stock, had settled after emigrating to America in 1748.
