1901 · Assassination of Mckinley

President William McKinley was shot at the Temple of Music, in the Pan-American Exposition, while shaking hands with the public. Leon Czolgosz shot him twice in the abdomen because he thought it was his duty to do so. McKinley died after eight days of watch and care. He was the third American president to be assassinated. After his death, Congress passed legislation to officially make the Secret Service and gave them responsibility for protecting the President at all times.

Italy, Austria, and Germany renew the Triple Alliance. The alliance lasts for three more years.

1925 · The First Municipally Owned Airport in the Country.

The Cleveland Hopkins Airport was named after its founder, William R. Hopkins, and it was the first municipality-owned airport in the United States. It also is the home of the first air traffic control tower, the first ground-to-air radio control system, the first airfield lighting system, and the first U.S. airport to be directly connected to a local rail transit system. It is still in operation today and is the 43rd busiest airport in the United States.
