He married Christina Bolijn on 5 May 1922, in Zierikzee, Zeeland, Netherlands. He died on 27 February 1979, in Zierikzee, Zeeland, Netherlands, at the age of 83.

1899 · Hague Peace Convention
The Hague Peace Convention was a series conferences that produced treaties and declarations. The convention took place in Hague, Netherlands. The conferences were among the first formal statements of the laws of war and war crimes in secular international law.
1904 · Weerdinge Couple Found in Bog
Two skeletons were found next to each other in Drenthe, Netherlands. The skeletons were dated back to between 160 BC and 220 AD. One of the skeletons was thought to be a female and the other a male so scientists called them the Weerdinge couple or Mr. and Mrs. Veenstra. It was determined that both skeletons were men and the name was changed to Weerdinge Men.

Name Meaning
Usual English form of the Latin name Hadrianus ‘man from Hadria’. Hadria was a town in northern Italy, which gave its name to the Adriatic Sea; it is of unknown derivation. The initial H- has always been very volatile. The name was borne by the Roman emperor Publius Aelius Hadrianus , during whose reign ( ad 117–138 ) Hadrian's Wall was built across northern England. The name was later taken by several early popes, including the only English pope, Nicholas Breakspeare (Adrian IV). It was in early use among immigrants from the Low Countries, and is found in some English regions from the mid-16th century. It has enjoyed considerable popularity in the English-speaking world since the late 20th century.
