He died on 17 July 1961, in Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska, United States, at the age of 86, and was buried in Saint Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Plymouth, Jefferson, Nebraska, United States.

1876 · The First Worlds Fair in the U.S.

The First official World's Fair, was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia. 37 Countries provided venues for all to see.

1883 · Mining Boom

In 1883, there was a mining boom in Northern Ontario when mineral deposits were found near Sudbury. Thomas Flanagan was the blacksmith for the Canadian Pacific Railway that noticed the deposits in the river.

1898 · War with the Spanish

After the explosion of the USS Maine in the Havana Harbor in Cuba, the United States engaged the Spanish in war. The war was fought on two fronts, one in Cuba, which helped gain their independence, and in the Philippines, which helped the US gain another territory for a time.
