When Camillus Barnett Higgins was born in 1878, his father, Benjamin Shores Higgins, was 27 and his mother, Martha Young Barnett, was 27. He married Ellen Porter in 1911. He lived in Davis Township, Lafayette, Missouri, United States in 1880 and Mayview, Lafayette, Missouri, United States in 1900. He died in 1929, at the age of 51.

1881 · The Assassination of James Garfield

Garfield was shot twice by Charles J. Guitea at Railroad Station in Washington, D.C. on July 2, 1881. After eleven weeks of intensive and other care Garfield died in Elberon, New Jersey, the second of four presidents to be assassinated, following Abraham Lincoln.

1882 · The Chinese Exclusion Act

A federal law prohibiting all immigration of Chinese laborers. The Act was the first law to prevent all members of a national group from immigrating to the United States.

1896 · Plessy vs. Ferguson

A landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court upholding the constitutionality of racial segregation laws for public facilities if the segregated facilities were equal in quality. It's widely regarded as one of the worst decisions in U.S. Supreme Court history.
