1832 · The Scottish Reform Act

The Scottish Reform Act was introduced by Parliament that introduced changes to the election laws in Scotland. The Act didn’t change the method of how the counties elected members but adopted a different solution for each pair of counties. Ultimately, it brought about boundary changes so that some burghs would have more say for the country than others.

1857 · Police (Scotland) Act 1857

The Police Act 1857 was an Act put into place by Parliament to establish a mandatory police force in every county of Scotland.

Name Meaning

Scottish: probably a habitational name from Wardlaw, in Kirkhill, Inverness, which is recorded as Wardelaue in 1202, or perhaps Wardlaw in Ayrs. However, the possibility that the Scottish family is related to the Wardlow family of Wardlow (Derbys) cannot be ruled out. The placenames derive from Old English weard ‘watch’ + hlāw ‘mound, hill’.
