The Derby Wharf Light was one the twin lighthouses that stood at either end of the Derby Wharf. It were used mainly to help pick up interest in the area. In 1914, when a major fire broke out in Salem flames burned the lighthouse to the ground. It was then rebuilt and later turned over to the National Park Services.
In the Mid 1870s, The United States sought out the Kingdom of Hawaii to make a free trade agreement. The Treaty gave the Hawaiians access to the United States agricultural markets and it gave the United States a part of land which later became Pearl Harbor.
