When Davis Mikesel Shaffer was born on 19 January 1895, in Robinson, West Wheatfield Township, Indiana, Pennsylvania, United States, his father, John Thomas Shaffer, was 30 and his mother, Eva Rebecca Cochran, was 20. He lived in Fairfield Township, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania, United States in 1910. He died on 28 October 1918, in France, at the age of 23, and was buried in Thiaucourt-Regniéville, Meurthe-et-Moselle, Lorraine, France.
