Jesse Bartholomew "Bartley" Woodward was born in 1808, in Wake, North Carolina, United States as the son of Britton Woodard and Margaret Fitzpatrick. He married Isabella Elizabeth "Betsy" Sherrard about 1837, in Washington, Virginia, United States. They were the parents of at least 7 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Washington, Wood, Virginia, United States in 1850 and Western District, Scott, Virginia, United States in 1860. He died on 10 July 1862, at the age of 54.
