Name Meaning

English: habitational name from any of several places called Sandon (in Essex, Hertforshire, and Staffordshire), Sanden in Hungerford (Berkshire), or Sandown Park in Esher (Surrey). The placenames all derive from Old English sand ‘sand’ + dūn ‘hill’.

In some cases possibly also French: from an Old French oblique form of Sando, a personal name of ancient Germanic origin, based on the element sand ‘true, just’.
