When William Bedford Aitken was born on 9 August 1904, in Ellesmere, Selwyn, New Zealand, his father, Alexander William Aitken, was 24 and his mother, Florence May Bulmer, was 33. He married Meriel Watson “Topsy” Nicholls on 23 June 1939, in New Zealand. They were the parents of at least 2 sons. He died on 9 December 1970, in Auckland, New Zealand, at the age of 66, and was buried in Eden Terrace, Auckland, New Zealand.
