Brief Life History of Frances

When Frances Howard was born on 31 May 1590, in Saffron Walden, Essex, England, her father, Lord Thomas Howard, 1st Earl of Suffolk, Baron Of Walden, was 28 and her mother, Alice de Britton, was 25. She married Sir Robert Devereux 3rd Earl Of Essex on 5 January 1606, in London, England. She died on 23 August 1632, in Chiswick, Middlesex, England, at the age of 42, and was buried in Saffron Walden, Essex, England.

1600 · The Honourable East India Company

The Honourable East India Company, a British joint-stock company, was established in 1600 for trade in the Indian Ocean region. At its height, the British East India Company had a private army which was twice the size of the British Army, ruled large sections of India, and revenues in the millions.

1620 · The Pilgrims Board the Mayflower

"The Pilgrims boarded the Mayflower in search of religious freedom in the New World in September 1620. The Mayflower set sail from Plymouth, England, with 102 passengers, 40 of whom called themselves ""Saints."" After two stormy months at sea, the ship reached the New World. Nearly half of the group died during their first winter due to malnutrition and the harsh New England winter."

English: of Norman origin, from the Middle English personal names Huward (also Howard) and Heward, from Old French Huard (itself from ancient Germanic Hugihard, hugi- ‘mind, understanding, spirit’ + hard- ‘hardy, bold’). As Hugh appears in Middle English as both How and Hew, this is the definite origin of Heward and a source of Howard. This surname is also very common among African Americans. See Hugh .

English: from the Middle English personal name Haward or Howard, usually an Anglicized form of Old Danish Hāwarth (Old Norse Hávarthr, from ‘high’ + varthr ‘guard, guardian, warden’). Alternation between Haward and Howard may have led to later confusion with Hayward .
