He married Mary Ann Le Huquet on 28 September 1856, in Gaspé, Gaspé-Est, Quebec, Canada. They were the parents of at least 6 sons and 5 daughters. He lived in Cap-des-Rosiers, Gaspé-Est, Quebec, Canada in 1871 and Clarke, Iowa, United States in 1895. He died on 28 March 1909, in Osceola, Clarke, Iowa, United States, at the age of 75.

1836 · Remember the Alamo

Being a monumental event in the Texas Revolution, The Battle of the Alamo was a thirteen-day battle at the Alamo Mission near San Antonio. In the early morning of the final battle, the Mexican Army advanced on the Alamo. Quickly being overrun, the Texian Soldiers quickly withdrew inside the building. The battle has often been overshadowed by events from the Mexican–American War, But the Alamo gradually became known as a national battle site and later named an official Texas State Shrine.

1857 · The State Capital moves to Des Moines

The Capitol was located in Iowa City until the 1st General Assembly of Iowa recognized that the Capitol should be moved farther west than Iowa City. Land was found two miles from the Des Moines River to start construction of the new building. Today the Capitol building still stands on its original plot.
