On June 10th, 1863, Napoleon III, along with his troops, entered Mexico City. By 1864, a French puppet regime was established with the Archduke of Austria, Maximilian as the leader. By 1865, the French had pushed Juarez and his troops to the Mexico-U.S. border. With the help of The U.S. however, by 1867 Napoleon III and his men were forced to flee Mexico entirely, and a republic was reestablished in Mexico under President Juarez, who had archduke Maximilian executed.
