Name Meaning

1 South German (Bavaria): probably from pitz ‘corner’, ‘peak’ + -er, suffix of habitation, hence a topographic name for someone living near such a feature in mountainous country.2 North German: perhaps a metonymic occupational name for a seal maker or die sinker, from Middle Low German pitzēr ‘seal’.
