He married Mary Josephine Tier in 1846, in Donnybrook, County Dublin, Ireland. They were the parents of at least 8 sons and 6 daughters. He died on 31 July 1908, in South Arm, New South Wales, Australia, at the age of 89, and was buried in Maclean, New South Wales, Australia.
