1721 · Recovery of Herengracht House Prices

Age 1

The houses along the Herengracht canal were considered a prime section of Amsterdam's real estate, and remain so to this day. However, as a result of various wars during the late 1600's and early 1700's, the pricing index for these properties dropped significantly. The index dipped as low as 151.8 in 1678. Fortunately, during the period of 1720-1736, the housing market experienced a period of recovery, and the Herengracht properties peaked at an index of 345.9 in 1736.

Age 25

England, Austria, Saxony and the Netherlands formed an alliance against Russia.
1756 · Herring Fleet Reduction

Age 36

The Dutch fishing industry had already been damaged during the War of Spanish of Succession. During the years of 1756 through 1761, the amount of herring fleets was reduced even more drastically; the primary cause was drastically lowered revenue. Foreign competitors thrived against the Dutch during this time, especially because they were not held to the same Dutch regulations and had easier access to fishing grounds.
