When Maria Rojas Retana was born on 13 May 1877, in Naranjo, Alajuela, Costa Rica, her father, Juan Rojas Barrientos, was 35 and her mother, Juana Retana Quesada, was 30. She married Timoteo Francisco De Jesus Solera Val Verde on 27 August 1898. They were the parents of at least 11 sons and 6 daughters. She died on 15 May 1959, in San Pedro, Pérez Zeledón, San José, Costa Rica, at the age of 82, and was buried in San José, Costa Rica.
