1828 · Michigan Capitol Building Constructed

Age 1

The first capitol building for Michigan was built in Detroit in 1828 and served the territory until it became a state in 1847. The old building was turned into a high school until it was demolished in 1893 after a fire engulfed the building. Today the land serves as a park for the community with a monument in remembrance of the first capitol building of Michigan.
