Variant spelling of Wheelton, an English habitational name from Wheelton in Lancashire or possibly Whilton in Northamptonshire, both named with Old English hwēol ‘wheel’ (perhaps indicating a waterwheel or similar feature) + tūn ‘enclosure’, ‘settlement’. The spelling Whealton does not appear in current English records.
