1 Scottish: unexplained. Black notes that ‘several persons of this name are recorded in the Commissariot Records of Campsie and of Lanark’. It is now very common in Scotland, especially around Glasgow.2 Jewish (of Sephardic origin): probably an Anglicized form of Ephraim .
