He married Rebecca Lenora McClain on 9 February 1861. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 9 daughters. He lived in Iowa, United States in 1870 and Ash Rock Township, Rooks, Kansas, United States in 1880. He died on 17 September 1887, in Colorado, United States, at the age of 44, and was buried in Denver, Colorado, United States.
